Diamonds Athuruga 4plus star

Stunning beaches and beautiful water villas.

Light and contemporary, Diamonds Athuruga is one of the best maintained Maldives resorts, with regular improvements only enhancing its appeal. As well as the main buffet restaurant, Maakeyn, you’ll be able to choose between live show cooking at the Japanese restaurant, fresh seafood on the beach, and a traditional Maldivian open-air dining experience on the beach. From January to April, the resort also hosts the ‘Dining with the Stars’ experience, featuring a different chef each week from the renowned Jeunes Restaurateurs d’Europe who will host a cooking lesson and gala dinner.

The waters surrounding the island teem with brightly coloured fish and other marine life. Superb snorkelling can be done straight from the island – from the boat jetty or via the cut-through by the overwater restaurant – and it’s worth booking one of the snorkelling trips to nearby thilas for the chance to spot manta rays or whale sharks. It takes a little longer to reach the best dive sites, but it’s recommended if you don’t mind the journey. Accommodation on the island is in Beach Bungalows just steps from the water’s edge or Junior Suites, which have a separate living room.

The beautiful five-star Water Villas are stylish white residences, and here they have an open wooden deck built on stilts over the water. With custom-made rattan furniture, hand-made parquet floors, contemporary Italian lighting and benefits including iMacs and free Wi-Fi, these villas have a real 'wow' factor. Here you’ll also be able to choose between sunset or sunrise views. Water Villa guests have access to their own restaurant, Thari, with a modern European and Asian fusion à la carte menu.

Restaurants & bars

The main restaurant for Beach Bungalow guests, Maakeyn offers buffet-style dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lunch might consist of pizza and pasta, or a barbecue grill where the catch of the day and a selection of meats are cooked to perfection. There’ll also be a choice of local dishes and themed dinners. The resort recommends that Water Villa guests book in advance to dine here.

The main dining venue for Water Villa guests is Thari, the overwater restaurant, which features a modern European and Asian fusion à la carte menu.

Thila, the intimate Japanese restaurant, offers a live show cooking experience, where specialist chefs prepare fresh sushi and cook a selection of seafood and meats on the teppanyaki grill.

The Maldivian corner, Farivalhu, offers cultural dining, where guests are invited to share in a starlit dining experience under the palm trees on the beach. You’ll help prepare traditional Maldivian dishes which will then be served in the open by the Maldivian chefs.

For a romantic dinner on the beach, Kakuni offers freshly caught seafood and fresh lobster under the moonlight.

There’s also Boli – a beach bar serving up light bites and tropical cocktails. From January to April, Diamonds Athuruga hosts the exclusive 'Dining with the Stars' experience. Each week during these months, the island hosts a different star chef from the renowned Jeunes Restaurateurs d’Europe. Members of the 'JRE' will create dedicated à la carte menus. All guests staying between January and April will receive a complimentary cooking lesson and Water Villa guests can also enjoy a free six-course gala dinner (available at extra cost to Beach Bungalow guests).
